Moving from a good neighborhood to a high risk neighborhood. Got a new quote online and the difference will be 200+ more. So I say screw it, I don’t need my payments going up on me. I didn’t report the move, will the auto insurance find out sooner or later?

As long as you keep all business on line, they may not. However, if you have an accident and they find the deceit, your insurance is worthless. They will not have to pay you a dime. Bite the bullet and change the address. Depending on your state, what you are doing may also be illegal.

Earlier today I called a local state farm agency and they gave me a quote of a month with liability but when I went online to purchase insurance, they gave me a quote of 7 a month with liability..I’m confused

State Farm gave you more personalized service, assessed your needs better. State Farm isn’t a rinky dink company, they have the tools and processes in place to quote based on many different factors. I bet you came out in the best rating group (Mutual) which is something many internet companies don’t offer — there is probably only one rating group, whereas State Farm has different levels.

Can auto insurance companies put some type of flag on your name so you can’t shop for better price quotes? Someone at DMV said they can.
Insurance company found out I tapped someone’s bumper and paid for it out of pocket. Said they gave me 3 points for it and doubled my premiums. DMV record clean

No. That’s untrue. However, if you have a driving record that is so dismal that you are assigned risk, you will have few choices.

ok i just turned 18, recently got my own car insurance. I would like to know, if your auto insurance would bring up your credit score or seeing that I have no credit, add to it? I know that some companies are checking credit before giving a quote, but i dont know if it would in any way help your credit.

No. They don’t report it to the credit bureaus.

They check your credit because there’s a correlation between good credit and good drivers / bad credit and bad drivers. Bad credit=irresponsiblity

I have used Geico for years. I have been extremely satisfied with their service. However, my premium is still more than I want to pay. I got a quote for Progressive and it is considerably less. Anyone out there have Progressive and satisfied with them? How have they handled claims in the past?

Any other good, reasonably priced auto insurance companies?

I used to have Geico for forever and a girl w Progressive hit my car. the incident went to arbitration and her ins fought tooth and nail for her even though it was her fault. Geico did nothing for me. I got an attorney and I sued her and won the arbitration. After that I switched to Progressive. Recently I called and asked what I could do to lower my premium. They suggested Snap Shots program which is where you plug a thing into your car and it monitors your driving habits. If you are a good driver it can lower your premium up to 30%. We haven’t received the devices yet but i hope it will make a difference. I love progressive so far. If you really don’t want to switch though just call Geico and tell them Progressive gave you a quote for $$$ and ask them to price match. If they don’t then switch.

I recently responded to an e-mail for a free auto insurance price quote (I’m in California). I wasn’t really looking to shop around – and wasn’t planning to switch companies to save a buck or two, but I was kinda shocked when the price quote I got from Unitrin Direct (same coverage limits and deductibles) was 0 less than I’m paying now. I called and asked what the catch was and they said they sell direct with no
agents/offices and pass the savings onto the customer (logical, but obviously scripted answer). They also touted an A.M. Best “Excellent” rating, but what good is financial stability if they bungle claims (for example) or have terrible customer service? So I guess I’m looking for a little confidence – or a big fat warning – before I jump into anything. Are they reputable? Is there any objective info available about them? (I’d love any good/bad comments from Unitrin customers out there too.)

I woulden’t do it. Like you said, AM Best rating doesen’t mean they will pay off well on claims. If you go without an agent, go with Progressive or Geico, preferably Progressive. I have always had good luck with selling it.
