Question by dave b: Car insurance advice?

Hi all I’m currently with More Than and i’m due to renew my insurance within the next week. The problem is i’m not sure if you report a chipped windscreen as a claim??

I’ve had my renewal from More Than which has 3 claims for past year on!!.I’ve had little chip’s repaired on my fiesta (seperate incidents) from when the roads round where i live where redone. On both occasions it involved speeding motorist that have sprayed up grit!!.Both times i went to a local Auto Glass down at my local supermarket and had it sorted. The other claim was when I was in a accident in April This year, which wasn’t my fault & which the other party has accepted liability for.

I’ve noticed on price comparison sites that if i add the 3 claims i can no longer protect my no claims bonus which stands at 5 years!!

Best answer:

Answer by David W
Auto glass at the supermarket? That’s a new one!

Normally glass claims like these won’t increase your rates or bring on a cancellation, since they’re not your fault.

Question by starsrblind: Actual cash value vs. Retail value?

I understand the price they offered is the actual cash value. Is it true that the ACV is always lower then the retail value??

I was involved in a car accident and it’s determined that it’s 100% the other party’s fault. My car was a total loss. . My insurance (Allstate) did the valuation and offered me a below market price for my car.

The car I lost is a 1997 Toyota Camry LE 4 cylinder, 4D, Green, 73,800 miles on the odometer, clean title, regular maintenance, fairly new tire, CD player, excellent condition.

They used two same-model cars for comparison when doing the car valuation. One is with 188000 miles and the other is with 114000 miles. And they averaged the two values and came up with 97. But the one I lost is at 73,800 miles.

With 97, I can only get only get a Camry with about 130000 miles, almost doubled the miles I had, according to Yahoo Auto search result. They argued that 130000 miles is comparable with 73,800 miles……..

Question by Anyone But ɐɯɐq0: Where is the change Obama promised and why is the left oblivious to his campaign that got him elected?

In the Seattle Times February 9, David Sirota’s syndicated column exposes the lack of change in the new administration:
“America was told that finally after years of yes-men running the government, we were getting a president who would follow Abraham Lincoln’s load, fill his administration with varying viewpoints, and glean empirically sound policy from the clash of ideas.

“Little did we know that the ‘team of rivals’ was what George Orwell calls ‘Newspeak’: an empty slogan.

“Obama’s national security team, for instance, includes not a single Iraq War opponent. The president has not only retained George W. Bush’s defense secretary, Robert Gates, but also 150 other Bush Pentagon appointees. The only `rivalry’ is between those who back increasing the already bloated defense budget by an absurd amount, and those who aim to boost it by a ludicrous amount.

“Of course, that lock-step uniformity pales in comparison to the White House’s economic team — a squad of corporate lackeys disguised as public servants.
“At the top is Lawrence Summers, the director of Obama’s national economic council. As Bill Clinton’s treasury secretary in the late 1990′s Summers worked with his deputy, Tim Geithner (now Obama’s treasury secretary) and Clinton’s aide Rahm Emanuel (now Obama’s chief of staff) to champion job-killing trade deals and deregulation that Obama Commerce Secretary Judd Gregg helped shepherd through Congress as a Republican senator.”

Some people call this economic package Obama boasts about as merely a way to force the taxpaying public to guarantee the financial industry’s bad loans.

No, this is definitely not the change that Obama’s campaign boasted about, is it? No, indeed, it’s the same people doing the same things, and the U.S. taxpayer footing the bill for failure.

The February 10 front page of the New York Times revealed this headline:

GEITHNER SAID TO HAVE PREVAILED ON THE BAILOUT

Stephen Labaton and Edmund L. Andrews in their article datelined from Washington, D.C. explained:

“The Obama administration’s new plan to bail out the nation’s banks was fashioned after a spirited debate that pitted the Treasury Secretary
Timothy F. Geithner against some of the president’s top political hands.

“In the end, Mr. Geithner largely prevailed in opposing tougher conditions on financial institutions that were sought by presidential aides, including David Axelrod, a senior adviser to the president, according to administration and congressional officials.”

What are some of the changes that Geithner wanted included? It will cost billions more!

As Labaton and Andrews revealed:

“It calls for the creation of a joint treasury and federal reserve program at an initial cost of 0 billion to 0 billion to encourage investors to acquire soured mortgage-related assets from banks.

“It wants the Fed to use its balance sheet to provide the financing, and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation might provide guarantees to investors who participate in the program.

“A second component of the plan would broadly expand to 0 billion to trillion, an existing 0 billion program run by the Federal Reserve to try to unfreeze the market for commercial, student, auto and credit cards.”

The big question to making these grandiose plans work is where is all this bailout cash coming from?

China, we hear, is experiencing its own recession. We already owe China more than trillion. China is cutting back in loans to the U.S. as it explains it needs money for China more than ever.

To put people in top positions who sent our jobs away and reward bank chiefs who took huge bonuses and put the same colossal bank president failures back in power does seem unforgivable.

America must remain strong so future generations will have the strength to pay off this gigantic national debt.

President Obama, what on earth happened to all your glowing promises for change?

Best answer:

Answer by Teleprompter Messiah
Theres been a lot of change from Obama. Change towards socialism.

Question by modelchica: Domestic Partnership is fair…right?

California Domestic Partnership

As of 2007, California affords domestic partnerships all of the same rights and responsibilities as marriages under state law (Cal. Fam. Code §297.5). Among these:

* Making health care decisions for each other in certain circumstances
* Hospital and jail visitation rights that were previously reserved for family members related by blood, adoption or marriage to the sick, injured or incarcerated person.
* Access to family health insurance plans (Cal. Ins. Code §10121.7)
* Spousal insurance policies (auto, life, homeowners etc..), this applies to all forms of insurance through the California Insurance Equality Act (Cal. Ins. Code §381.5)
* Sick care and similar family leave
* Stepparent adoption procedures
* Presumption that both members of the partnership are the parents of a child born into the partnership
* Suing for wrongful death of a domestic partner
* Rights involving wills, intestate succession, conservator-ships and trusts
* The same property tax provisions otherwise available only to married couples (Cal. R&T Code §62p)
* Access to some survivor pension benefits
* Supervision of the Superior Court of California over dissolution and nullity proceedings
* The obligation to file state tax returns as a married couple (260k) commencing with the 2007 tax year (Cal R&T Code §18521d)
* The right for either partner to take the other partner’s surname after registration
* Community property rights and responsibilities previously only available to married spouses
* The right to request partner support (alimony) upon dissolution of the partnership (divorce)
* The same parental rights and responsibilities granted to and imposed upon spouses in a marriage

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_partnership_in_California

In my opinion:
Looks to me like domestic partnership is pretty much the same. Domestic partnership is a term used to describe same sex marriage in my eyes. Just like bigamy is the unlawful act of having two or more wives or husbands at the same time, usually with the second not knowing about the first. Polygamy is the practice of having multiple wives based on religious beliefs, with all wives aware of, and agreeable to, the husband having several wives. Civil unions, common law marriages, etc. are among these various terms used to describe different types of marriages.

In essence the comparison used with the Brown vs. Board of education “separate but equal” plight that gays try to use to compare their argument is not a fair comparison. Were gays being kept from attending the school of their chose just because they are gay? Were gays demanded to sit at the back of the bus or give up their seat because they are gay? Were gays hung on trees, blown up in churches, unable to vote just because they are gay? Were gays ever unable to drink from the “whites only” water fountain just because they are gay? Were gays forced to work as slaves because they are gay? The list goes on…THERE IS NO COMPARISON! Boundaries have to be created in order to establish some form of limit that keeps chaos from ensuing. The vote has been cast for a second time to establish what the majority wants (not just one race, but all walks of life were included in this vote). America doesn’t make it legal for genders of the opposite sex to commit bigamy, incest, statutory rape, etc. All these are acts that the members of the opposite sex can “want” to do, but can be arrested for doing. Are gays being arrest for their lifestyle? Looks like they have many rights granted to their situation already to suit much of what they want. Demanding the term marriage to include same sex marriage is forcing society to give a mile when many inches of fairness have already been granted.

Best answer:

Answer by — VMPlvr –
What is marriage? Why do we want it? Why cant we just be in love……spend your lifes together, dont waste time on a marriage, just to prove you love eachother. I would enjoy going on a date just as much as getting married…..I bought my boyfriend a ring, and he was the happiest I have ever seen him. There is no reason to get married, gay or straight, love is already there, and there is no need to prove it.

Question by I’m an Atheist: I want your religious perspective on this. So after you answer, state: Are you a believer or non-believer?

Geico Auto insurance says in their radio advertisement that “you can save 0 by switching to Geico” (we’ll even assume that the 0 figure is accurate – but they don’t state where the 0 figure comes from). I think this ad is clearly deceptive for several reasons.

First of all, it says you “can save” money, not that you “will save” money, but it gives the opposite impression.

Next, it implies that Geico insurance is (on average) 0 cheaper than insurance from other companies which is blatently false.

And finally, and most importantly, it bases the 0 savings on people that “switch to Geico” only. It’s not a comparison of all Geico rates with the rates from other companies. So, naturally, if you switched to Geico (and most people switch companies to save money), their rates will appear to be less than the company they switched “from”.

Do you think that this Geico ad is deceptive?
I also asked this question in “advertising” to see their perspective on it…
Believers and non-believers interpret what they read (in the Bible, for example) differently.
So, by last count… atheists tend to think it’s deceptive, while believers (and people that refuse to answer – probably believers – ) tend to think it’s not deceptive. Interesting!

Best answer:

Answer by Leviathan
Unless Geico are offering to insure your soul, I don’t see the relevance.

Answer by claimsadjuster
No I do not think it is false advertising. I got quotes from Nationwide, State Farm, Progressive, AIG (whom I work for), Liberty Mutual, and 21st Century (before AIG bought their business). Geico, for six months I pay 7 – I have the state maximum coverage, zero comprehensive deductible, fifty dollar collision deductible, rental reimbursement, tow & labor, medical/PIP coverage, and I have a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe. I have never had any accidents or speeding citations. A lot of times insurance is based on your credit and what most consumers do not know is that, you NEVER have to provide your social security number to get insurance! Your occupation and marital status does make a difference. Your zip code also make a difference in your insurance premium. When I first moved to Florida, I had Nationwide Insurance, in which I was paying pretty close to a thousand dollars for SIX MONTHS, then I called Progressive and got a quote, and I paid right at NINE HUNDRED dollars for six months! Then I called Geico and my premium was 0 for 6 months, but after being with them for 3 years, my premium has continuously dropped – as I haven’t had any accidents or tickets.
Most insurance companies (even AIG) say that you “Can save” it does not guarantee that you will save XX amount of dollars.
Good luck!

Question by Veteran Voter: Are you buying into the “Green Car” myth?

The Prius is the most economical import. The Focus is the most economical domestic vehicle. The most common new vehicle auto loan is five years. So this comparison is based at 5 years.

Toyota Prius, 48 MPG City and 45 MPG Hwy. Retail ,175

If you drive 13,000 miles per year and get 46.5 miles per gallon at .499/gallon you will pay 8.21 per year. That’s 91.05 over 5 years.

Ford Focus, 24 MPG City and 35 MPG Hwy. Retail 755

If you drive 13,000 miles per year and get 29 miles per gallon at .499/gallon you will pay 68.52 per year. That’s 42.51 over 5 years.

The Prius costs you ,420 more just in MSRP but only saves you ,000 in fuel costs. Sales taxes and property taxes are more expensive with Prius. As are auto insurance rates, and monthly finance payments.

Import cost efficiency is a myth. This is just one example. You can use these formulas to compare any two vehicles. Buy Domestic vehicles for domestic jobs. Fix our economy.

Answer by magley64, magz™ if ya *scoff*
I drive 150 miles per day, figure that into your cost analasys…

(some people drive WAY more than 13,000 a year)

I drive a Caddi Eldorado

as for my other vehicles, i have a Honda CBR1100XX, and it’s way faster than any domestic for a comparative cost..

your “economy” argument doesn’t make sense either, many of these cars are made in the USA (yes! honda, toyota, hyundai, all making cars stateside)

Question by douglas j: Is Obama’s health care plan really just another tax to an already overtaxed population?

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says requiring people to get health insurance and fining them if they don’t would not amount to a backhanded tax increase.

“I absolutely reject that notion,” the president said. Blanketing most of the Sunday TV news shows, Obama defended his proposed health care overhaul, including a key point of the various health care bills on Capitol Hill: mandating that people get health insurance to share the cost burden fairly among all. Those who failed to get coverage would face financial penalties.

Obama said other elements of the plan would make insurance affordable for people, from a new comparison-shopping “exchange” to tax credits.

Telling people to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase, Obama told ABC’s “This Week.”

“What it’s saying is, is that we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for you anymore,” said Obama. “Right now everybody in America, just about, has to get auto insurance. Nobody considers that a tax increase.”

Obama faces an enormous political and communications challenge in selling his health care plan as Congress debates how to pay for it all.

He told CBS’ “Face the Nation” that he will keep his pledge not to raise taxes on families earning up to 0,000, and that much of the final bill — hundreds of billions of dollars over the next 10 years — can be achieved from savings within the current system. Coming up with the rest remains a key legislative obstacle.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said there is no way Obama can achieve his goals without raising taxes.

“He has to. How else do you pay for it?” he told CBS.

Obama put his support behind the idea of taxing employers that offer high-cost insurance plans.

“I do think that giving a disincentive to insurance companies to offer Cadillac plans that don’t make people healthier is part of the way that we’re going to bring down health care costs for everybody over the long term,” Obama said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Obama’s network interviews were taped Friday at the White House. He became the first president to appear on five Sunday network shows in the same morning, an extraordinary effort to build public support for his top domestic priority.

The goal is to expand and improve health insurance coverage and rein in long-term costs.

Yet despite so many weeks of speeches, town halls and interviews, Obama said he has found it difficult at times to make a complex topic clear and relevant.

“I’ve tried to keep it digestible,” Obama said. “It’s very hard for people to get their arms around it. And that’s been a case where I have been humbled and I just keep on trying harder.”

Obama told Univision’s “Al Punto” (“To the Point”) that the strong opposition to his plan is part of a political strategy.

“Well, part of it is … that the opposition has made a decision,” he said. “They are just not going to support anything, for political reasons.”

Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky said Obama doesn’t understand Republicans’ opposition.

“I don’t know anybody in my Republican conference in the Senate who’s in favor of doing nothing on health care,” McConnell said. “We obviously have a cost problem and we have an access problem.”

But he told CNN’s “State of the Union” that the Democrats’ plan is simply too rushed.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said Obama has ignored grave concerns over his plan and his media blitz won’t change that.

“The president is selling something that people, quite frankly, are not buying,” Graham told NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

“He’s been on everything but the Food Channel,” he added.
