Question by Mislead Devotion: Insurance policy: Excluded Driver surcharge?

I have a PA auto policy with Titan Insurance (I’m high risk).
My original ID cards did not list an excluded driver, however, when I misplaced them and printed new ones from the website I found that my mother was listed as an Excluded driver.
(We are household residents.)

From what I understand, you must sign something in order to have an excluded driver. I don’t remember signing anything when I got my policy (8/9/07), which if had it would have reflected on my original ID cards, and did not sign ANYTHING when I renewed (2/9/08).

IF they had ASKED me if I wanted to exclude my mother, I would have told them absolutely not. I have no problem with her driving my vehicle, and it would only hurt me, as she has such a clean driving record and high insurance score.

When I got my dec page for renewal (8/9/08) it listed “EXCLUDED DRIVER SURCHARGE.” So they’ve been charging me?

I’ve called my agency and told them I would like to see the form where I excluded my mother.
I guess my question is, if they can’t turn up the paper where I excluded her, and I was charged for the exclusion, what is my recourse?
She has her own vehicle and policy, I just wanted to make sure my vehicle is covered if she drives it.

Best answer:

Answer by UwishUknewMyName
I do not understand why you would be charged for excluding a driver ?? Usually there is a charge for ADDING a driver to the policy because then you would have to pay for adding them to your coverage. They should not charge you for excluding someone. Why would you pay if coverage isn’t being afforded for that person.

Make sure your agency shows you a copy of the exclusion. Yes you would have had to sign it, and if you didn’t. Tell them to reverse the exclusion.

However, if your mother is in the same household, does not have insurance, and drives your car, then she needs to be on your policy. Otherwise, if she’s in an accident in your vehicle, your company could deny the claim.

Hope this helps

**Add
If she has her own vehicle and policy, then there should be no problem with your mom driving your car. Advise your carrier of your mother’s insurance info and tell them you do not want her excluded

Question by Felicia: Don’t know where to turn (insurance)?

I was in an auto accident in September of 09. I was ruled the cause of the accident and didn’t have insurance. My car was totalled but the car I hit had very little damage to the front bumper. I contacted their insurance company (all state) where I was told they wouldn’t be offering me money, which is understandable. I never heard back from them with a phone call or a letter. A couple months later I get a phone call and started getting letters from CCS a collection agency stating that I owe 1500 dollars to them on behalf of their client all state. I was a little weary so talked to my family who told me to wait until I get something more legit. I am now getting letters and calls that I owe 5000 dollars. How is this possible and where do I go for help? There is no way I owe 5000 dollars for bumper damage. And why wan’t I told by the insurance company? the collectio agency is now threatening legal action. People tell me its a scam but how do I know?

Question by mirrornotreflecting: In California. lawyer forgot to pay his clietn’s medical bills–his client was reported to credit Bureaus?

The client’s auto insurance had paid the lawyer an x amount of money to cover an exact bill before it goes into collecetion. The lawyer kept the money in the trust for 9 months, until the client discovered that the collection agency has reported the credit bureau.
The cleitn called the lawyer, and the lawyer said that he forgot the money in the trust.

what is that called? any suggestion on what to do?
should not the lawyer be responsible for neglecting this matter. he got the money, he should have paid the medical bill.

Best answer:

Answer by quizzard123
Incompetance. The client needs to file a letter with the credit bureau detailing the specifics of the problem. It won’t erase the collection, but it will give potential creditors a reason for a lower socre.

Question by power: What makes republicans think dems. are against people being rich?

I just saw a question that assumes this. We have many rich people like Oprah, Buffet, Ted Turner, Gates, Hollywood & we all want to rich. We support the poor in this country cause we are for equal opportunites for all. Most poor people do not even vote. I know I grew up around poor people & they don’t have cable & don’t have the time to worry about politics. They need to relax when they get home from work…..so please tell me if you believe dems are against rich people why do you think this…….I am agaist them not having any competition. I would like to have a health insurance company that could sell me health insurance for less than 00 a month why shouldn’t the gov. offer that?….I would love to buy my auto insurance from an agency where the owner doesn’t make half a million dollars a year so I could actually pay people a decent amount but also pay a decent amount for my insurance…………….don’t we all want fairness?
Slip: this is why we want to tax the rich. They make all that money off of everyone so they should pay higher taxes so the working class who might not even be able to to pay still gets to pay less on their taxes. Plus, the poorer guy who doesn’t even have a car to see Springsteen benefits.

Best answer:

Answer by dizneygeek
they keep trying to take income from the rich. They EARNED it and they should get to keep it.

Question by : Best insurance company to work for?

I live in Southern California, I have been looking for work since I moved here from France. I posted a general sales resume on careerbuilder.com and have since been spammed by insurance agencies. Some have been good companies like State Farm and Farmers. Some have been less, like Colonial Life and Axa advisers. I believe Axa wanted me for a commissioned investment broker position.

I didn’t pass the personality test for State Farm, but I can try again in a year. I will have a strategy and research next time. State Farm has 9 month paid training, a huge signing bonus at the end and would be an excellent opportunity but it isn’t for right now.

What I did learn through all of this, especially from Colonial Life is that the insurance licenses aren’t that hard or expensive to get. I’m thinking of getting life, health and auto.

Does any one know of companies that have non-independent, salaried agents? I would like a commission, but not the 100% commission based model of Colonial or Axa. I also don’t want to cold-call or drop off 180 envelops a week like Colonial demands.

I don’t want to be independent for the moment, although that is possible in the future with a good company like Farmers or State Farm. Right now I could work as a salaried sales person through an independent agent or direct hire. What is the best way to get on-board?

Best answer:

Answer by StephenWeinstein
It is unlikely that any insurance company will hire a salaried salesperson without insurance experience.

At least 95% of new insurance salespersons in the U.S. fail at it. Only 5% are successful.

An insurance company is not likely to pay a salary to someone who is probably going to fail, because most new insurance salespersons fail. New hires can only get commission, because that way the company does not have to pay the 95% who fail and only has to pay the 5% who are successful. If they paid a salary, then they would have to pay everyone, even though 95% failed to accomplish what the company needed.

Licenses are harder to get than lottery tickets are. Licenses are more expensive to get than lottery tickets are. And, with the lottery, you might have better odds. Either way, you are basically throwing away your money, because you are not likely to make any money selling insurance or buying lottery tickets.

Answer by Cat
If you have anything IN WRITING that says what you paid up front covered a year, then point it out to them.

It is customary to pay car insurance in 6 month intervals.

I would definitely shop for other coverage. You can always switch if you find a better rate.

So we are paying like 2 for car insurance on two vehicles with American Family Insurance and we both have clean records although we are young 22 (f) and 24 (m). We just got a quote from Wawanesa they said we could do full coverage through them for half the price 80 a month! Although they don’t do home insurance and I know you can save a lot by combining the two. So now through AFI we pay about a month for home insurance is that a good price with the combined home and auto?? How much do you think it will go up if we cancel the car insurance and go with wawanesa?? Is there cheaper insurance agencies that will cover only home? In the end I am just looking for how much you pay and if you combine your auto with the same company. Thanks!!
I live in a small 2br 1 bath 1000sqft 1/4 acre only dangers would be flood hasn’t happened since 97′ or a tree falling and maybe a car crashing into the house and of course liability if someone gets hurt on your property other than that nothing really happens here in southern oregon.

Best answer:

Answer by mbrcatz
Honey, if you’ve got a million dollar mansion, a month, or 0 a year, is a damn fine price for homeowners insurance.

The only way to know if you’ve got a good deal for YOUR HOUSE, is by shopping it out. No insurance company is cheapest for EVERYONE, and there’s no short cut – to find out who is cheapest for YOU, you have to shop around.

And knowing what *I* pay for homeowners and auto insurance, does no good – because I’m a different age, and have different cars, and my house is in a different location, and probably is worth a different amount of money than yours.

But I will tell you, I pay more than FIVE TIMES what you pay, for my house insurance.

Question by ninfragile19: Get out of paying collision damage waiver on rental car?

I picked up a rental vehicle this morning while my car is in the shop for repairs from an accident. The employee from the rental company talked me into getting the supplemental insurance saying how it’ll make things easier in the event of an accident. Not realizing that my own auto insurance will work on a rental (it’s mandatory to have auto insurance in Massachusetts), I went ahead and purchased the CDW. Knowing what I now know, is it possible for me to opt-out of the rental agency’s protection plan and use my own for the remainder of the rental period? Even if I have to pay for today, I’ll do that. Beats having to pay for a whole week’s worth.

Best answer:

Answer by Jim C
Nope. Can’t do it. Basically you bought an insurance policy and they’re non refundable. That’s like trying to get your premium back since you had no accidents. While you don’t need it and they can’t make you buy it, this covers the deductible portion of your auto policy whereas otherwise you have to pay it. Don;t know what your deductible is, but a few bucks now is easier than 0 later.
