my daughter leased a 2006 suv in michigan and somehow she did not have auto insurance on it when she hit a tree – is it possible to lease a car and not have some type of coverage by the driver or the dealer in the state of michigan.

Best answer:

Answer by Kiffin # 1
I would think that the lessors would have some coverage on their investment. Check the lease contract; I’m sure any details would be included therein. Good luck!

Best answer:

Answer by mccoyblues
If you have a loan the lender will require full coverage insurance. They have to protect their investment and lower their risk. Obviously a full coverage policy is going to cost more than basic coverage hat you can buy on your own.

Question by chicagosuntimesky: Do I have to show proof of ownership of a car to get car insurance online?

Do I need to show any type of proof or give a vin number for a car to buy auto insurance online?

Best answer:

Answer by xwdguy
You don’t need to show proof of ownership (but if you’re doing it for a friend who owns/uses it, they should be a listed driver). A VIN usually helps determine the symbol for the car (replacement cost — needed to calculate comp and collision). But you’ll do better finding a local independent agent with lots of companies, explain any situations that may need special handling (DUI’s, teen drivers, no prior insurance, combining with homeowners/renters, etc.). The usual advice is: higher coverage (slight price increase), higher deductible (lowers the price), honesty about your record. Your credit rating can also affect the price with most companies — be prepared to be asked for a SSN, or to give them your credit score in lieu of this. Independent agents can usually get you a better price, because they can comparison shop many companies (would you rather priceline/travelocity if you’re looking for an airline ticket, or would you rather call each airline?).

Question by Lexie: If you buy a vehicle from a dealer, does that car have some kind of insurance for at least a few days?

I bought a car from a delaer yesterday. I don’t have time to go and take care of the full coverage auto insurance on this car until lext week. I asked a dealer what happens if the car gets in accident. They said the car does not have any coverage and I need to take care of the insurane right away.

Someone told me that, actulally, the dealer has coverage on the vehicle for 3,4 days after a cutomer buys it and drive away with it. They just don’t want you to know that because they don’t want to pay in case of accident. Is that true?

Thanks.

Question by Kendra L: How can I get auto insurance in my name when the car is registered in someone else’s name?

My mom currently has a loan on my car in her name in California. My car is registered in California, but because my husband is active duty military, we relocated to South Carolina. Is there a way I can obtain insurance in my name without being a registered owner?

Best answer:

Answer by Dan B
Since your mother has the loan on the car, the lender requires your mother to maintain full coverage on the car. Presuming there is full coverage, talk to the insurance company and have yourself listed as the primary driver. You can’t double insure a car (your mother’s policy and your own).

There are policies for non-owner drivers, but I don’t think that is your situation here.

Question by Kevin Chisholm: What are my options for rental car insurance?

I am renting a car for one month from Hertz. Their insurance is very expensive (at per day, it adds 0 to my costs). I have already asked my credit card company if they offer auto insurance for a rental car. Do you have any suggestions on other options for inusuring a rental car for one month?
I do not own a car, so I do not have any personal auto insurance. This rental will be in the United States.

Best answer:

Answer by oklatom
With the rental company you have two options, take it or refuse it.

Talk to your insurance agent about a rider which would cover any at fault accident you would have with a rental car for a month. They may have suggestions.

Question by Matthew S: What UK car insurance provider will give me credit for years driving with a US license?

I am about to get my full UK driving license and purchase a car, and need auto insurance – given that my UK license will be completely new, will any UK providers take into account the fact that I have been driving with a US license for the past 9 years?

Best answer:

Answer by strawberrypink_blush
probably not as you’ll have been driving on the other side of the road. Try searching for specialist insurance compaines. its unfortunate that you cant use a foreign licence in the uk for more than 1 year. maybe sites like moneysupermarket.com or confused.com could help
