How would you boycott the BCS?

Question by clint16s: How would you boycott the BCS?

Lots of people are talking about boycotting the Bowl Championship Series in the wake of this weekend’s ratings. How does anyone plan on doing that? Are you going to boycott everything PepsiCo’s involved with (they own Tostitos, among about a billion other brands), dump your home, auto and life insurance (Allstate), Fedex and maybe even your bank or mutual funds (Citi)? Because I can’t think of another way to do it. These folks are too big and too dug in for a boycott to work, whether you watch the game or not.

Money talks. If someone could raise enough money to give 8 teams more than they would get from their bowl game we could have an 8 team playoff. Teams can decline bowl invitations.

That would then taint the title won by whoever won the BCS championship game.

Think about it. Wouldn’t you rather watch a playoff than some no names in some bowls?

As much as this sounds good. I don’t plan to boycott at all. The way I figure it is that when enough of the power houses get left out of the dough, the BCS will implode. I am not saying teams like USF or BC aren’t deserving of playing, but face it, they don’t have the tv drawing power of a USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, and the like. So when the conferences get pissed and the TV networks advertisers get pissed, the BCS will change. Until then, I will keep eating my Habanero Doritos and Pepsi.

You are not going to do anything. there is nothing that can be done about the BCS until 2011 no matter what. its pointless to argue it. the BCS is no less vague than the college bball selection committee. at least the BCS has a set formula they must follow.

a 4 team play-off or the ‘and 1′ game will probably happen after the current BCS contract expires in 2011.

I am an avid College football fan, and I’ll be honest – the thought of a playoff nauseates me. There might not be a clear-cut National Champion, but honestly who cares?

I’ve grown up a Tennessee fan my whole life (age 30) and for me it’s always been a premium to win the SEC. That’s what I grew up with, that is what is important. A BCS game or a National title (like the one in 1998) is just icing on the cake. It should be that way for every team. Give your conference your loyalty and take anything above and beyond as a bonus. I’d hate to see a college team not leaving it all on the field in the 4th quarter to try to win a game because the know that they still have a good shot at getting into a playoff. Right now every game matters…

And if you want to boycott, move to another country and watch soccer – that’s the only way you’ll have any effect.

Get rid of the @sshole who is in charge of the Big 10. He is the single biggest roadblock to a playoff, and the Big 10 has lots of money. Other than that, I would say to stop buying tickets and stop watching games on TV. When every stadium is less than half full and the TV ratings are horrible, then we could get a playoff. Money talks, drastically reduce the money going in and it could happen.

what the NCAA should make the teams do is make them replay all the bowl games from the previous year as their first games of the year. that alone would widdle down the teams

  6. Vegas Matt Says:

The only people talking ‘boycott’ are idiots like you who don’t realize your team doesn’t deserve to be in first after they lose. And really, many fans ‘boycott’ the bowls their team isn’t in anyway, so there’s nothing you can do.

You BCS haters need to make up your mind. Is the BCS f-ed up because it doesn’t let the little guy in like a playoff system would, or is it f-ed up because the traditional powerhouses get blocked out too easily? Well guess what, a traditional powerhouse who hasn’t lost a regular season game since Oct 2005 is #1, and one of the “little guys” (who has the 12th rated schedule in the country BTW, undoubtedly better than your team) is at #2. Stop whining because your team lost and you think it’s unfair a team of losers isn’t #1.
