Answer by rowlfe
Before the advent of computers, it was not practical to store very many records and it was a huge chore to search, so they kept a few years at best. NOW, with mass data stored in computers, there is no limit and virtually NO chance any data will be “lost in the shuffle” as happened with the paper documents. The answer is: for all practical purposes, FOREVER.

I guess you would have to ask the involved insurance companies since all companies have different record keeping capabilities, and procedures………… a few years to forever?

well that depends on your insurance carrier. there is information stored in an external data base where the insurance carrier can access it. from my personal expierence with erie insurance they only go back 3 years. so they know about the at fault accident that i had 4 years ago but it doesn’t affect my rates. i would call your agt. and ask how far back they look.
