Question by Overover: Rent a car if i dont have any auto insurance?
I am 21 college student. I want to rent a car for 3 days, but I dont have any car insurance. Is it a good idea to buy the insurance offered by the rental company? If so, which insurance should I buy? Thanks. BTW i have visa credit card , which has some collision insurance.

you can’t drive without insurance. So if you don’t have insurance and rent a car you MUST buy the insurance they offer.

It’s always a great idea to get the rental companies insurance. They will make sure everything is covered!! And it only costs you about $13-$20 a day extra for it. But think of how much it would cost if you didnt’ get it and had something go wrong?? Go for it.

I think you’re kinda stuck with their insurance. How about your parents ?? Ask their agent …??

I’ve done it before, told the rental place that I did have insurance when I didn’t. I drove the car for 5 days and I was on rails the entire time, always afraid I was going to nip a corner and cost me thousands of dollars. I have insurance now, but if I had to do it again I’d get the insurance from the rental place. It’s just not worth the risk to save 45 bucks.

Go with the company they recommend. BUT Read the coverages first ! I am sure they would not work with a bad one.

You will need to have insurance. See if you are currently covered on your parents. Also, I think only some car rental places rent to people under 25.
